On Feb. 28 at 5 p.m., the
Beta Omicron Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Clover Park Technical College
will hold its induction ceremony for new members. The ceremony, open to the public,
will take place on the Lakewood Campus in Bldg. 3’s Rotunda.
The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society was established
to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. Members
are enrolled at accredited colleges, in more than 12 hours of coursework, have
a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and receive an invitation to membership
from their college’s chapter.
Clover Park Technical College is the host to
the Beta Omicron Gamma chapter of PTK. Members are invited year round but
induction ceremonies are held in the Winter and Summer Quarters.
To apply for membership, CPTC students need to complete
an application, pay a one-time fee of $70 and provide an unofficial transcript
to the chapter’s advisor, Kathleen Hathaway.
PTK boasts more than 1,200 chapters on two-year
colleges around the world. The organization is focused on four hallmarks:
scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.
In addition to recognizing academic
achievement, the chapter provides opportunities for individual growth through
additional programming.
