During this three-day event, the Japanese students
participated in the hands-on hematology lab activity with our former MLT
instructor Anne O’Neil, and our current MLT students and alumni assisted Anne
and the Japanese students in the lab. They also toured our Medical Histology Technician program.
They also visited two medical facilities in the area – St.
Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. At
St. Joseph, they toured the clinical lab and the diagnostic imaging department,
and at Harborview, they toured the Burn Unit to see the state of the art
facility and technology for treating burn patients.
On the last day, they returned to our campus to attend a
guest lecture presented by a clinical lab technician from Madigan Healthcare
System. The students from both colleges also presented their research projects.
In the afternoon, they enjoyed some cultural exchange with fun activities such
as calligraphy, origami, sampling of Japanese cuisine and Washington’s
delicious foods.
