The Service-Learning Center would like to give a huge “Thank You!” to the Cosmetology program for their service over the
weekend! On Saturday, August 11th,
over 20 students and alumni of Clover Park Technical College’s
Cosmetology program volunteered more than 100 hours at Caring for
Kids 2012 Ready to Learn Fair. Our fabulous volunteers started cutting
hair an hour before the event was scheduled to begin, due to the amount
of families arriving early. The annual event was held at Lochburn Middle
School, where low-income families from the
Clover Park, Steilacoom, and University Place school districts came to
receive items to help get them ready for the coming school year – school
supplies, clothing, immunizations, physicals, and haircuts. The event
served over 3,000 children and their families,
some of whom spent the night at the school. Caring for Kids is a
volunteer run 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Fircrest dedicated to
ensuring that local kids are given the tools they need to succeed in
school and in life.
Great work, Cosmetology students, instructors, and alumni! We appreciate that you gave up a summer Saturday to make a
difference in the community! You rock!
