A
special thanks to our Architectural Engineering Instructor Dean Lamb
for sharing a little more about our pre-college history from the
1920’s. The recent News
Tribune article on the popular race track that overlapped our current campus. Dean noted “ the News Tribune
article on the Tacoma Speedway …was accompanied by a layout of the
track I have never seen before, along with information about its width
(50 feet) and length (approximately 2 miles).”
Dean
took the liberty of overlaying the former track onto our campus map.
As you can see the track was quite large… it basically extended from
Lakewood to Lakeview
Drive (which was not here then), and from Steilacoom Blvd. south to
beyond the Lakewood Police Station and 95th St. SW.
Thank you Dean for helping us get a better perspective on an interesting piece of our history.
