CPTC at Mother Earth Farm

Big Thanks to the volunteers who spent their Saturday working at Mother Earth Farm in Puyallup! Our fantastic volunteers planted Black Cherry Tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, and Chard, as well as separated Purple Broccoli seedlings to be planted later.  Although it was a bit rainy, the volunteers spent most of their time laughing and joking.

All of the produce grown at Mother Earth Farm (about 150,000lbs per year!) is distributed to 12 food banks in Pierce County – even better; it goes right into hands of needy families within eight hours of harvest!  The lion’s share of the work done at Mother Earth is supplied by volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, contact Emergency Food Network Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Genton at (253) 584-1040 or stephanie@efoodnet.org.

This term, 29 Clover Park volunteers gave 130 hours to organizations such as Metro Parks Tacoma, Mother Earth Farm, New Connections, CSI Regional Conference, and CPTC’s Flett Creek Natural Resources Laboratory. One hour of volunteer time in Washington is worth $21.01 – that means that we injected $2,731.30 worth work back into the community! Great work!
