Congratulations to Dr. Phil Venditti on the selection of his proposal to be funded through the Student Achievement Initiative’s “Open Course Library” project. This project funds the re-design of up to 80 different high enrollment courses within the community and technical college system with the following goals in mind:
- Improve course completion rate
- Lower textbook costs for students
- Provide new resources for faculty to use in their courses
- Move our college system to fully engage the global open education resources discussion
Dr. Venditti will re-design his Public Speaking course (CMST& 220) to allow faculty across the system to use it in whole or in part in any learning space – face-to-face, hybrid and/or online. The re-designed course will be collectively owned by the college system and will contain an open creative commons license on it allowing it to be shared with the world. The reduced cost to his students and the ability to interact with and benefit from other instructors across the state system and ultimately around the world are valuable outcomes to this effort. Dr. Venditti is to be commended for stepping up to this challenge and hopefully he will serve as a mentor to others who wish to do something similar to their curriculum.
